FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vancouver Renewable Energy Cooperative FormedDemonstration Project will be a First for Greater VancouverVANCOUVER – When the sun shines, electricity and hot water will flow. That is the mission of the new non-profit Vancouver Renewable Energy Cooperative. The first project of the Cooperative will be the installation of a solar photovoltaic grid-tie system and solar hot water system on a residential building in Vancouver. While becoming more common in the US, the proposed system would be the first of it's kind on a residential structure in Vancouver.
This grid-tie system is made possible under a new net-metering program introduced this year by BC Hydro. Customers will produce their own power and sell any surplus generated to Hydro’s grid. Power can also be drawn from the grid when needed.
Vancouver Renewable Energy has begun initial site assessments of potential locations for the demonstration project in Vancouver. The cooperative is also forming alliances with local contractors and seeking funding to complete this first project. This installation has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,500 kg annually.
Future projects will be financed with energy savings from initial funded projects, helping to make what's right for the environment more affordable for homeowners. More information can be found on the organization's website: www.recov.org. For More Information Contact: |
