Vancouver Renewable Energy is a workers cooperative, which means it is co-owned and run by a democratic collective of members. It is run on a non-profit basis. This means that members/workers are paid an hourly rate for their labour in the same way a worker in a non-profit organization would be, but no-one is paid simply for owning shares. Anyone can purchase goods or services from the cooperative.
People interested in working for/with the coop as a member are encouraged to volunteer with the coop, which is a required part of the application process. Existing volunteers may be offered paid work with the coop when it arises, and if a membership position becomes available, may apply for membership. Membership positions are created when enough work exists and is expected to continue in the future to justify creating another job within the coop. Potential members applying for the position will be assessed for their experience, qualifications etc.. in the usual way.
If you would like to receive periodic email updates on what is going on with the coop, please email us and we will add you to our list. You don't have to become a member or be interested in employment with the coop to volunteer and we welcome 'general' volunteers too.
